Catherine, princess of Wales (born January 9, 1982, Reading, Berkshire, England) is the consort (2011– ) of William, prince of Wales and heir apparent to the British throne. In 2022 Catherine became the princess of Wales, a title previously held by her mother-in-law, the late Princess Diana.

Katherine entered English politics as a child when her parents decided to negotiate an alliance with Henry VII, King of England, and his Queen, Elizabeth of York. She was betrothed to Prince Arthur, Henry’s eldest son, and left Spain in 1501, aged just 15.
Katherine of Aragon, queen of England, was the youngest daughter of Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castile. She was named Catalina (or Katherine as she was known in England) after her maternal great-grandmother. She came to England in 1501, aged fifteen, to marry Arthur, Prince of Wales, but only months after the marriage Arthur died.

The former Queen of England’s prolonged melancholy ceased on 7 January 1536, just weeks before Anne Boleyn would miscarry her final pregnancy.
