4 de dic. de 2023 · Zabriskie Point is part of the Amargosa Mountain Range. Much like the Trona Pinnacles in Inyo County, the land inside of Death Valley used to be submerged and covered by a lake. Over millions of years, gravel, volcanic ash, and mud built up in layers of sediment on the bottom. The lake dried up an estimated five million years ago.
Zabriskie Point. Explore this 0.4-mile out-and-back trail near Death Valley, California. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 10 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking and walking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime.
Located 4.5 mi/7.2 km from the Furnace Creek Visitor Center, Zabriskie Point is probably the most famous viewpoint in Death Valley National Park. The drive from the Visitor Center will take about 15-20 minutes and brings you to a fairly large parking area, which has a vault toilet and several information boards.
Zabriskie Point was named after vice-president and general manager of the Pacific Coast Borax Company, Christian Brevoort Zabriskie. Zabriskie’s company was a large player in Death Valley's industrial development in the early 20th century, and therefore the point was named after him to honour the work he had done.
