  5. Richard Bedford Bennett was born on July 3, 1870, in Hopewell Hill, New Brunswick. His early training was as a teacher. He taught at a school for two years and then served as a principal for another two years. But by then he had become interested in the law. He graduated from Dalhousie University in 1893 and became a lawyer that year.
