Johan de Witt was the grand pensionary of the province of Holland in 1653. This was a stadholderless period in the Republic because Prince William III was still a minor. The accomplished Johan emerged as the actual leader of the civil government, over which the States General, rather than the stadholder, held sway. This led to considerable tension.

24 de ene. de 2023 · Johan de Witt served as the equivalent of the country’s Prime Minister from 1653 onwards, though the actual title he held was the Grand Pensionary. All went well for many years. The Dutch Republic continued to punch way above its weight in terms of its European and colonial trade dominance , bringing enormous wealth into cities such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Dordrecht.
HNLMS Johan de Witt ( Dutch: Zr.Ms. Johan de Witt) is the second Rotterdam -class landing platform dock [citation needed] of the Royal Netherlands Navy. The Corpses of the De Witt Brothers is a c. 1672–75 oil on canvas painting by the Dutch Golden Age painter Jan de Baen, now in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. It shows the dead and mutilated bodies of the brothers Johan and Cornelis de Witt hanging upside down on the Groene Zoodje, the place of execution in front of the Gevangenpoort in The Hague.

Como no podía ser de otro modo, parece que el político aparece en la película, y su atroz final es mostrado en la misma, con una veracidad bastante sorprendente como muestran los decorados y esculturas que aquí se muestran.
