O'Connell, Daniel (1775–1847), barrister, politician and nationalist leader, was born in Carhen, near Caherciveen, in the Iveragh peninsula of south-west Kerry, on 6 August 1775, the eldest of ten children of Morgan O'Connell (1739–1809) and his wife, Catherine O'Mullane (1752–1817).

Enlarge image. Daniel O’Connell was a famous Irish person who lived during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century. He helped Catholics to win the right to become Members of Parliament. He also wanted Ireland to have its own parliament. He became known as the “Liberator” because he looked for rights for Irish people.
O'Connell falleció a causa de un debilitamiento cerebral en el año 1847 en la ciudad italiana de Génova, durante un viaje de peregrinación a Roma a los 71 años de edad. Cumpliéndose con su último deseo, su corazón fue enterrado en Roma y su cuerpo en el cementerio de Glasnevin, en Dublín junto a una torre circular.

Daniel O’Connell at the Bar His commanding talents were soon recognized at the Bar, and although a Catholic might not then aspire to a silk gown, he could not complain of want of business. His fees the first year amounted to £58; the second, £150; the third, £200; the fourth, £300; thenceforward they advanced rapidly, until in some years they amounted to £9,000.
