Elena Petrović-Njegoš. Elena of Montenegro, or Jelena Petrović Njegoš, was born in Cettigne (Cetinje) on January 8, 1873. She is the sixth daughter of King Nicholas I of Montenegro and Milena Vukotić. Cettigne was then the modest capital of Montenegro, in fact it was little more than a mountain village, inhabited by shepherds.

Princess Elena of Montenegro, or more commonly known as Queen Elena of Italy, was born in Cetinje in 1871 as the fifth daughter of King Nikola I Petrović Njegoš and Queen Milena Vukotić. At the age of 10, she went to the Smolny Institute for young ladies in St. Petersburg, Russia.
