Sophia Brahe. Sophia (or Sophie) Thott Lange (née Brahe; 24 August 1559 or 22 September 1556 – 1643), known by her maiden name, was a Danish noblewoman and horticulturalist with knowledge of astronomy, chemistry, and medicine. Highly educated in classical literature, astrology, and alchemy, Sophia Brahe made her contribution to science as an assistant to her brother, astronomer Tycho Brahe. Sophia assisted with the observations that led to his computation of the lunar eclipse of December 8, 1573, and often visited his well equipped observatory on the island of Hveen.
1 de oct. de 2020 · Sophia Brahe joined him, serving as his apprentice and assistant. She was probably there when Tycho Brahe discovered the “new star” he observed in the Cassiopeian constellation in 1572. Tycho Brahe published his observations in a book entitled De nova stella in 1573 and his partly groundbreaking findings made him famous throughout Europe’s scientific circles.
Sophia was born in Knudsturp, Denmark, in 1556. She was the youngest of 10 children. Her oldest brother was the famous astronomer, Tycho Brahe . Tycho and Sophia were part of a noble Danish family. Their family did not approve of Tycho and Sophia's interest in science. That was not the sort of thing noble people did!
