Asselijn, Jan. Dieppe, 1600/20 - Amsterdam, 1652. Procedía de una familia de origen francés que se trasladó a Amsterdam hacia 1621. Jan Asselyn, Asselijn ou Asselin, né à Dieppe vers 1610 et mort à Amsterdam vers le 1 er octobre 1652, est un peintre et dessinateur néerlandais (Provinces-Unies) du siècle d’or. Il fut actif également en Italie — où il se joignit aux Bamboccianti — et en France, et figure au nombre des peintres paysagistes néerlandais italianisants de la seconde génération.
Jan Asselijn (Dieppe, c. 1610 — Amsterdã, 1 de outubro de 1652) foi um pintor e desenhista neerlandês pertencente à Idade de Ouro neerlandesa. Era o irmão mais velho do poeta e dramaturgo Thomas Asselijn .
The threatened swan, c. 1650. With outstretched wings and arched neck, the swan is protecting her eggs from a dog, which is approaching menacingly from the left. The fierceness of the bird is emphasized by the feathers flying through the air. The artist has rendered the swan from a low vantage point, so that it appears even larger.
Werkzame periode Jan Asselijn Van Asselijn is bekend dat hij vanaf 1621 tot eind 1635 in Amsterdam woonde. Hier kreeg hij les van Jan Martszen de Jonge en begon hij zijn carriere als kunstenaar. Het eerste werk dat van hem bekend werd dateert ook uit de periode: 1634. Op zijn 25e begint Jan Asselijn een 12 jarige zwerftocht door Europa.
