In Korea, he earned four significant awards – the Silver Star Medal for his part in the Inchon landing; a second Legion of Merit for leadership; a Distinguished Service Cross for heroic actions in late 1950; and a fifth Navy Cross for heroism during the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir.
