However, after his death in 1583, his younger brothers again divided the county: John Günther I received the territory around Arnstadt, later called Schwarzburg-Sondershausen, while Albrecht VII inherited the lands of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. The partition was finally confirmed by the 1599 Treaty of Stadtilm.

Albrecht VII of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt (16 January 1537 – 10 April 1605) was Count of Schwarzburg and founder of the Line of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt, which later received the title of Prince. He was the youngest of the surviving sons of Count Günther XL of Schwarzburg-Blankenburg and his wife Countess Elisabeth zu Ysenburg-Büdingen in Birstein.

La prima volte, il 14 giugno 1575 sposò la contessa Giuliana di Nassau-Dillenburg, figlia del conte Guglielmo I di Nassau-Dillenburg e sorella di Guglielmo I d'Orange detto "il Taciturno", da cui ebbe i seguenti figli: Karl Günther, conte di Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt (6 novembre 1576 - 24 settembre 1630)
