Windsor-Clive was the eldest son of Robert Clive, grandson of Edward Clive, 1st Earl of Powis, and great-grandson of Robert Clive, 1st Baron Clive ("Clive of India"). His mother was Lady Harriett Windsor, daughter of Other Windsor, 5th Earl of Plymouth. He was educated at Eton and St John's College, Cambridge. [2]
Windsor-Clive was born in 1923, the son of Ivor Windsor-Clive, 2nd Earl of Plymouth, and his wife Lady Irene Corona Charteris, youngest daughter of Hugo Charteris, 11th Earl of Wemyss. His unusual first name goes back in the Windsor family to Other, or Othoere, the father of Walter Fitz Other , who was castellan of Windsor in the time of William the Conqueror .

Robert, 1st Earl of Plymouth (1857–1923), and his family are buried here. The first creation was in 1675 for Charles FitzCharles, one of the dozens of illegitimate children of King Charles II and one of a few by his mistress Catherine Pegge. He died without heirs in 1680, and the title became extinct.
