Gotha è una città tedesca di 45 099 abitanti, appartenente al Land della Turingia. È il capoluogo, e il centro maggiore, del circondario omonimo. Gotha si fregia del titolo di " Grande città di circondario " ( Große kreisangehörige Stadt ).
Gotha is een stad in de Duitse deelstaat Thüringen, gelegen in de gelijknamige Landkreis. De stad telt 45.273 inwoners. [1] Gotha wordt gedomineerd door het barokslot Friedenstein. Het was als residentiestad de rivaal van Weimar (beide waren hoofdstad van een Ernestijns hertogdom) en was een bolwerk van natuurwetenschappen.

Gotha nevnes i 775 og omtales i 1189 som by. Residensstad fra 1640 og fra 1826 til 1918 sammen med Coburg i Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha. I 1820 ble det første tyske forsikringsselskap Gothaer Versicherung grunnlagt i byen. I 1875 ble Sozialistische Arbeiterpartei Deutschlands (1875) senere omdøpt til SPD, grunnlagt i vertshuset Tivoli i Gotha.
