William Petty ( Dublin, 2 mei 1737 - Londen, 7 mei 1805), 1e markies van Lansdowne, was een Iers Whig -politicus, minister van Buitenlandse Zaken in 1782 en eerste minister van Groot-Brittannië in 1782-1783. Hij was als William FitzMaurice geboren in Dublin in Ierland. Petty was meer gekend als de tweede graaf van Shelburne .
In 1760, Fitzmaurice was elected as Member of Parliament for Wycombe, but he did not take up his seat. His father died in May 1761, and Fitzmaurice was elevated to the peerage as the Earl of Shelburne. In 1763, Shelburne joined the Grenville ministry as First Lord of Trade. In 1766, he became Southern Secretary in Lord Chatham’s government.
