Similaun er eit fjell i Ötztalalpane på grensa mellom Austerrike og Italia. Josef Raffeiner og Theodor Kaserer vart i 1834 dei første som nådde toppen av fjellet. Fjellet er mest kjend for at det var her Helmut og Erika Simon fann leivningane av mannen, som fekk kallenamnet Ötzi , i 1991.
Similaun is one of the classic glacier mountains of the Ötztal Alps – or perhaps the most classic for some reasons. The nearby Niederjoch pass (3019m) is a popular mountain pass, often crossed by hikers, even mountain bikers, though you touch the (rather harmless) Niederjochferner glacier. It exeeds the "magic" 3000m elevation line.
Ötzi the Iceman. Ötzi the Iceman, [1] or Otzi, (pronounced as Œtsi, in German ), is a well-preserved natural mummy of a man who lived about 5,300 years ago. [2] The mummy was found in September 1991 by two German hikers in the Schnalstal glacier, Ötzti Alps, near Hauslabjoch on the border between Austria and Italy. [3] [4]

La mummia del Similaun (in tedesco Mumie vom Similaun ), anche uomo del Similaun, uomo dell'Hauslabjoch e familiarmente Ötzi, è un reperto antropologico rinvenuto il 19 settembre 1991 in Trentino-Alto Adige, in prossimità del confine italo-austriaco, ai piedi del ghiacciaio del Similaun a 3 213 m s.l.m.
