FDR was a world-class collector famous for his stamps, ship models, naval art and books. But in the archives of the FDR Presidential Library and Museum there is a remarkable collection that FDR spent a lifetime acquiring. FDR called it his “Naval Manuscript Collection” but that does not do it justice.

Roosevelt, nicknamed “FDR,” guided America through its greatest domestic crisis, with the exception of the Civil War, and its greatest foreign crisis. His presidency—which spanned twelve years—was unparalleled, not only in length but in scope.
He was 63 years old. His death came on the eve of complete military victory in Europe and within months of victory over Japan in the Pacific.
