Sofia Airport (Bulgarian: Летище София, romanized: Letishte Sofiya) (IATA: SOF, ICAO: LBSF) is the main international airport of Bulgaria, located 10 km (6.2 mi) east of the centre of the capital Sofia.
Sofia is in the west of Bulgaria. Sofia is one of the oldest capital cities in Europe; the history of Sofia dates back to the 8th century BC. Many of the major, biggest universities, cultural centers and institutions, and many businesses of Bulgaria are concentrated in Sofia.
Sofia was seized by Russian forces in 1878, during the Russo-Turkish War, 1877-78, and became the capital of the autonomous Principality of Bulgaria in 1879, which became the Kingdom of Bulgaria in 1908.
