Jöns Jacob Berzelius was born on August 20, 1779 in the parish of Väversunda, in Sweden’s East Gotland province. His mother was Elizabeth Dorothea Sjösteen and his father was Samuel Berzelius, a high school teacher. Jacob’s parents both came from church pastors’ families. Tough Times.
