The Thirty-Nine Steps is a 1915 adventure novel by the Scottish author John Buchan, first published by William Blackwood and Sons, Edinburgh.It was serialized in All-Story Weekly issues of 5 and 12 June 1915, and in Blackwood's Magazine (credited to "H. de V.") between July and September 1915, before being published in book form in October of that year.

The 1959 version of The 39 Steps was successful at the British box office, but has always been regarded as inferior to the Hitchcock film. Even Ralph Thomas seems to have agreed with this, calling the film "a piece of effrontery that didn't come off".
Critics reviews. Remake of the classic Hitchcock movie. Whilst generally not as good, it is a rather fun movie, and more lighthearted than the original. This is largely due to Kenneth More’s acting.
