Original coat of arms. The original coat of arms used from 1829 to 1985 is that of George IV, who was the King at the time of foundation of the college. The shield depicts the royal coat of arms together with an inescutcheon of the House of Hanover, while the supporters embody the college motto of sancte et sapienter ("With Holiness and Wisdom").
Founded in 1829, King's College London is one of the first two colleges to form the University of London. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious schools in the UK. As of the 2019-2020 academic year, there are 19,370 undergraduate and 13,740 postgraduate students.
