This is a list of United Kingdom general elections (elections for the UK House of Commons) since the first in 1802.The members of the 1801–1802 Parliament had been elected to the former Parliament of Great Britain and Parliament of Ireland, before being co-opted to serve in the first Parliament of the United Kingdom, so that Parliament is not included in the table below.
General elections in the United Kingdom are organised using first-past-the-post voting. The Conservative Party, which won a majority at the 2019 general election, included pledges in its manifesto to remove the 15-year limit on voting for British citizens living abroad, and to introduce a voter identification requirement in Great Britain. This person will represent a local area (constituency) in the House of Commons for up to five years. There is a choice of several candidates in each constituency. Some will be the local candidates for national political parties.
This election saw the Liberal Democrats vote fall from 23% to 8% and MPs elected from 57 to 8. In terms of the popular vote, they were replaced as the third party by the UK Independence Party, who achieved 13%, although they won only 1 seat. The Green Party also achieved their best ever result with 4% of the popular vote.
