Like the Astra F, the Astra G was available as a wagon in New Zealand, but not Australia. In 2003, a 147-kilowatt (197 hp) 2.0-litre turbo engine became available. The standard Astra was only available with a 1.8-litre 16-valve engine, and lived on until 2005 as the Holden Astra Classic, alongside the new model.

Like the DTM racing car, it featured a 4.0 litres (240 cu in) V8 engine , producing 444 hp (331 kW) , gull-wing doors supported by gas struts, carbon fiber panels, and race-specification interior with five-point seatbelts .
