Berkeley Square Gardens is an attractive and leafy green spot in the middle of salubrious Mayfair, but as far as London’s myriad of squares go, it’s probably not the grandest nor the most beautiful. But if you are in Mayfair and looking for a picnic spot, its a pleasant spot to sit and while away an hour or two.
However, the square’s most notable feature are the huge plane trees around the fringes of the park. Some of these were planted in 1789 by Edward Bouverie who lived at 13 Berkeley Square. In the spring and summer these beautiful shade trees make the perfect spot for an alfresco lunch. There’s some interesting pieces of sculpture in the square.

The Square has been the home to various well-known residents including Winston Churchill who lived at number 48, and PG Woodhouse’s fictional character Bertie Wooster.
