University College, informally known as Castle, is the oldest constituent college of the University of Durham in England. Centred on Durham Castle on Palace Green, it was founded in 1832 by William van Mildert, Bishop of Durham.

All students at Durham University are members of one of our colleges. Colleges are residential communities that offer student-led opportunities and events in drama, music, sport and volunteering, as well as a wide range of other activities and facilities.
Established in 1899, St Mary's is one of Durham's oldest Colleges. Our warm and friendly mixed community, comprises around 750 undergraduate members and 150 full-time and 200 part-time postgraduates. We are situated in a great location, close to many of the University’s academic departments and central facilities.
