Hace 18 horas · The East India Company Military Seminary was founded in 1809 at Addiscombe, near Croydon, Surrey, to train young officers for service in the company's armies in India. It was based in Addiscombe Place, an early 18th-century mansion. The government took it over in 1858 and renamed it the Royal Indian Military College.

Hace 18 horas · Between 1918 and 1939, the Royal Air Force had provided the Fleet Air Arm to the Royal Navy, and Royal Naval Air Stations were consequently operated by Royal Air force personnel. On 24 May 1939, operation of the Fleet Air Arm was returned to full Admiralty control under the Inskip Award , with Royal Air Force personnel replaced by Royal Naval personnel, or transferring to the Royal Navy.
