George Baxter (1804–1867) was an English artist and printer based in London. He is credited with the invention of commercially viable colour printing. Though colour printing had been developed in China centuries before, it was not commercially viable.
George Baxter (born July 31, 1804, Lewes, Sussex, England—died January 11, 1867, Sydenham, Kent) was an English engraver and printer who invented a process (patented 1835) of colour printing that made reproductions of paintings available on a mass scale.
