Some 4,000 Allied troops were killed in the invasion. Goss knows he was one of the lucky ones to make it back home.

Hace 18 horas · First Army weren’t much more than kids themselves that day – wide-eyed 18- and 19-year-olds not that much older than me when I visited Normandy in late March of 1975. I doubt they had the clarity of a clear-cut “democracy over fascism” motivation in mind that bloody day, but clearly they knew they were part of a greater cause worth dying for.
