The spectacular 14th century Tantallon Castle is situated east of Edinburgh, right on a cliff's edge, and is surely one of the most magnificent ruins in Scotland. Having seen more than its share of sieges, it goes down as the last of the grand medieval castles and was the centre of the Red Douglas dynasty.
