Lincoln's Inn is the largest Inn, covering 11 acres (4.5 hectares). It is believed to be named after Henry de Lacy, 3rd Earl of Lincoln . History. During the 12th and early 13th centuries, the law was taught in the City of London, primarily by the clergy.
The Inn will be closed for the late May Bank Holiday from Friday 24 May at 17:00 to Tuesday 28 May at 09:00. Lincoln’s Inn is a thriving society of barristers, situated on a large estate of historic buildings, contemporary facilities, and tranquil grounds in central London.
Visit Us. Lincoln’s Inn is located in central London. The main entrance to the estate is staffed twenty four hours a day and is located on the south east corner of Lincoln’s Inn Fields. The estate is conveniently located only a short walk from either Holborn or Chancery Lane tube stations.
The exact origins of Lincoln’s Inn, and in fact any of the other three Inns of Court, are not fully known. We do know that the Inn’s formal records, or governing minutes known as the ‘Black Books’, go back continuously to 1422, which is nearly eighty years earlier than any other Inn.
