Allene Gates (1948-1962) – Gates was a golfer and a non-swimmer half Johnny’s age. According to Tarzan, My Father, she was Johnny’s best wife and became the mother that Johnny Jr. always wanted.
Weissmuller was married five times: band and club singer Bobbe Arnst (married 1931, divorced 1933); actress Lupe Vélez (married 1933, divorced 1939); Beryl Scott (married 1939, divorced 1948); Allene Gates (married 1948, divorced 1962); and Maria Gertrude Baumann (born 1921, died 2004; married from 1963 until his death in 1984).
With Gates, Weissmuller enjoyed a life of leisure. In fact, it looked like Gates had done the unthinkable in taming the real-life Tarzan. They traveled the world together, playing in golf tournaments and exhibitions and sharing their love of amateur sport.
Johnny met and married Allene Gates (married 1948-divorced 1962) after his divorce from Beryl was finalized. Johnny Jr. lived with the couple for a time. He enjoyed close family time with the couple in a way he never experienced when his mother and dad were married.

According to an article in San Pedro News Pilot, they had already tied the knot before his divorce with his previous wife was finalized. Gates and Weissmuller remained married for eight years. In 1962, Weissmuller then married Maria Brock Mandell Bauman.
A few years earlier, Johnny was playing his usual rounds at the California Country Club when he met Allene Gates, daughter of a pro golf celebrity and an accomplished amateur golfer in her own right. The friendship turned romantic after a couple of years, and they were wed shortly after the divorce.
Johnny Weissmuller is by far the best known of the actors who have played Tarzan, and he won 5 Olympic gold swimming medals in the 1920's.
