Founded in 1826 by Ernest Anton, the sixth duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, it is a cadet branch of the Saxon House of Wettin. One agnatic branch currently reigns in Belgium —the descendants of Leopold I —and another reigned until the death of Elizabeth II in the United Kingdom —the descendants of Albert, Prince Consort .
Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (German: Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha), or Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (German: Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha [ˈzaksn̩ ˈkoːbʊʁk ˈɡoːtaː]), was an Ernestine duchy in Thuringia ruled by a branch of the House of Wettin, consisting of territories in the present-day states of Thuringia and Bavaria in Germany.
Leopold Joris Christiaan Frederik van Saksen-Coburg-Saalfeld (Coburg, 16 december 1790 – Laken, 10 december 1865), prins van Saksen-Coburg-Saalfeld, hertog van Saksen, was van 21 juli 1831 tot aan zijn dood de eerste koning der Belgen: Leopold I van België.
30 de abr. de 2015 · Het succes van de familie von Saksen-Coburg begon min of meer met prins Leopold. De knappe en slimme Duitse prins wist de Britse kroonprinses Charlotte het hof te maken ten koste van de prins van Oranje, de latere koning Willem II.
Leopold Clemens Philipp August Maria van Saksen-Coburg en Gotha ( Svätý Anton, 19 juli 1878 — Wenen, 27 april 1916) was een Oostenrijks-Hongaars officier en een prins uit het katholieke huis Koháry. Hij was de enige zoon van Louise van België en Filips van Saksen-Coburg en Gotha.
21 de jul. de 2023 · Op 21 juli 1831 legt Leopold van Saksen-Coburg en Gotha op het Brusselse Koningsplein de eed af als eerste koning der Belgen. Een klein jaar eerder, op 25 augustus 1830, was in Brussel de zogenoemde Belgische omwenteling begonnen.
Het huis Saksen-Coburg en Gotha (Saksen-Coburg-Gotha) is een van oorsprong Duitse dynastie waarvan leden over verschillende Europese landen heersten. De dynastie ontstond uit het hertogelijke huis Saksen-Coburg-Saalfeld (uit het huis Wettin), dat in 1826 het dubbelhertogdom Saksen-Coburg en Gotha in bezit kreeg.
