He was summoned to Parliament from November 12, 1303 until July 13, 1305, 'whereby he is held to have become Lord Burghersh'.

  6. Biography. Lord Burghersh was to have been provided with a seat in Parliament by his uncle Lord Lonsdale, who as early as 1802 was contemplating his return for Cockermouth when he came of age. In the event he was returned for Lyme on the family interest.
