Marvin "Smitty" Smith (born June 24, 1961) is an American jazz drummer and composer. Marvin Smith was born in Waukegan, Illinois, where his father, Marvin Sr., was a drummer. "Smitty" was exposed to music at a young age, receiving formal musical training at the age of three.
Buster Williams, and Marvin "Smitty" Smith. Smith, who has become the number-one drum choice on New York jazz recording sessions, can play, as Emily notes, "all kinds of styles. He's what I need because my stuff goes in so many directions. And he's so tasteful and giving as a drummer." Emily first recorded with Hank Jones ten years ago.
