Sigurd Ibsen (23 December 1859 – 14 April 1930) was a Norwegian writer, lawyer and statesman, who served as the prime minister of Norway in Stockholm (1903–1905) and played a central role in the dissolution of the union between Norway and Sweden in 1905.

In June 1862 the theater went bankrupt, leaving Ibsen for the next two years without a regular income to support himself, his wife, and their son Sigurd, who was born December 23, 1859, the only issue of their marriage. The period from 1860 to 1864 was probably the worst of Ibsen’s life.
Sigurd Ibsen was born on 23 December 1859 in the city of Oslo, where two years earlier his father had become the artistic director of the Norwegian Theater. He was named after the hero of his father's most recent play, The Vikings of Helgeland (Hœrmœndene pâ Helgeland), and grew up following the peregrinating footsteps of his father.
