21 de abr. de 2023 · The 1926 film “The Johnstown Flood” is a major achievement of the silent film era – and now, a newly-restored version of the film will have its premiere in Johnstown as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the Johnstown Flood Museum.
Based on a true story from 1999 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. George O'Brien plays Tom, a logger who becomes concerned that the dam that overlooks the town is unsafe and cannot handle the upcoming Spring runoffs and rain.
Engineer Tom O'Day warns John Hamilton, a logging-camp owner, that the dam above the town of Johnstown is being weakened by the impounding of water for floating logs. Hamilton refuses, however, to heed the warning. Tom, who is in love with Gloria, Hamilton's daughter, plans to marry her while Hamilton is absent in Pittsburgh.
