  1. "Did I Make You Up" was based around a guitar riff improvised by Mark Knopfler. Armatrading had already written the song but Knopfler felt it could be improved by including a more up-tempo riff, which he then devised and which Armatrading agreed to include on the song.

  4. 14 de jul. de 2017 · The arrangements are subtle yet supple, the supporting band (featuring Mark Knopfler and a returning Pino Palladino) typically excellent. The Shouting Stage is in many ways where you would expect Joan Armatrading to be at this stage in her career: mining familiar melodies with richer results.

  5. Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits played guitar on this track. Other musicians on the track were Pino Palladino on bass, Dave Mattacks on drums, and Jody Linscott on percussion. Armatrading wrote, produced and arranged all the tracks on the album.

Synthesizers are largely absent from the album, the songs are complex yet supple, the pointed playing of part-time guest Mark Knopfler is delicious. The Shouting Stage is exactly where I hoped Joan Armatrading would be at this stage in her career: mining familiar melodies with richer results.
