Kaliman Asen I, also known as Coloman Asen I or Koloman (Bulgarian: Калиман Асен I; 1234-August/September 1246) was Emperor of Bulgaria from 1241 to 1246. He was the son of Ivan Asen II of Bulgaria and Anna Maria of Hungary. He was only seven when he succeeded his father in 1241.

Las incursiones mongolas se fueron haciendo cada vez más frecuentes, lo que obligó al zar Kalimán Asen I, de siete años, a pagarle un tributo anual a Batú Khan, nieto de Gengis, a cambio de tranquilidad. Pero no hubo tal porque el país se vio inmerso en una continua guerra civil por el trono.

The origins of the dynasty, especially the ethnic background of the three Asen brothers (Teodor I Peter IV (Romanian: Teodor I Petru IV), Ivan Asen I (Romanian: Ioan Asan I) and Kaloyan (Romanian: Caloian)) are still a source of much controversy, debated among historians.
However, the contemporaneous Alberic of Trois-Fontaines recorded that Ivan Asen's successor, Kaliman I Asen, signed a truce on the feast of Saint John the Baptist (24 June), evidencing that Ivan Asen had already died. Madgearu writes, that Ivan Asen most probably died in May or June 1241. Family. Ivan Asen married two or three times.
