Dietrich (Theoderich, Theodoric) of Haldensleben (died 25 August 985) was a count in the Schwabengau, later also in the Nordthüringgau and the Derlingau, who was the first Margrave of the Northern March from 965 until the Great Slav Rising of 983.

Bernard II of Haldensleben (or Bernhard) (died 1051) was the Margrave of the Nordmark from 1018 until his death. He was the grandson of Dietrich of Haldensleben and a rival of the counts of Walbeck, one of whom, Werner, succeeded him in the march following his deposition.
The Counts of Haldensleben rose to considerable power, most notably Dietrich and William, who ruled as margraves of the Northern March. Soon after a trading place ( Neuhaldensleben ) arose nearby, which was vested with market rights about 1150.
