He is the author of Inside Improvisation, a multi-volume series of instructional books with play-along CDs and videos, and another series of books about improvisation published by Advance Music. He is also the author of the book/CD set Sound Advice, published by Jamey Aebersold Jazz.

As the title suggests, these sessions took place in New York and both albums feature an impressive line-up of musicians including, tenor saxophonists Michael Brecker and Jerry Bergonzi.

Alex Riel (born 13 September 1940) is a Danish jazz and rock drummer. [1] [2] His first group Alex Riel/ Palle Mikkelborg Quintet won Montreux Grand Prix Award at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1968 and it was published in Billboard 's June 1968 edition. [3] He is married to the writer Ane Riel .
