  2. Located in the filmmaking capital of the world, the AFI Conservatory is nestled in the hills overlooking Hollywood. The picturesque eight-acre campus is in the center of the professional filmmaking community with easy access to studios, networks and post-production facilities.

  4. ONLINE APPLICATION. AFI uses the GradCAS application system. The application portal will be available starting on September 7, 2023 for Fall 2024 applicants. Please note applicants can only apply to a maximum of two programs. Applications for Fall 2024 are now closed for Cinematography, Directing, Editing, Producing and Screenwriting.

  6. The Conservatory is a program of the American Film Institute founded in 1969. History. The Center for Advanced Film Studies (later the AFI Conservatory) opened its doors at Greystone Mansion on September 23, 1969. Harold Lloyd screened his film The Freshman and spoke with AFI Fellows on the school's very first day.
