On the southern front, the armies of Üveys Pasha, recently appointed Ottoman governor of Yemen, moved from Zabid toward Taizz on 1 Dhu’l-Hijja 952/3 February 1546 with the assistance of the Ismaili amir Muhammad ibn Ismaʿil.
