  4. This album was recorded in LA in 1954 right after Lennie got out of the Army and the melodies will have you snapping your fingers to keep the beat. The recording is pristine, clean and does not sound overly digital on my Arcam Solo.

  5. Niehaus here produces one of the finest ‘West Coast’ albums of the genre; crisp, clear part-writing with a wealth of contrapuntal, contrary motion and sequential development in a series of cameos using two quintets, though it is the pianoless saxophone quintet that shines.
