Niccolò and Maffeo are characters in the 1982 miniseries Marco Polo, played by Denholm Elliott and Tony Vogel, respectively. They are portrayed by Massimo Girotti and Mića Orlović in the 1965 movie Marco the Magnificent.
Niccolò Polo (c. 1230 - c. 1294) fue un comerciante y explorador veneciano, padre del famoso explorador Marco Polo. Trabajando con su hermano Maffeo Polo la mayor parte de su vida, establecieron puestos comerciales en Constantinopla, Sudak y en la parte occidental del Imperio mongol.
Maffeo Polo (c. 1230 – c. 1309) was a Venetian merchant and explorer, the brother of Niccolò Polo, and the uncle of Marco Polo. Working with his brother for the majority of his life, they established trading posts in Constantinople, Sudak and in the western part of the Mongol Empire.
His father, Niccolò Polo, a merchant, traded with the Near East, becoming wealthy and achieving great prestige. Niccolò and his brother Maffeo set off on a trading voyage before Marco's birth.

Marco Polo (September 15, 1254 – January 8, 1324) was a Venetian trader and explorer who, with his father Niccolò and his uncle Maffeo, was one of the first Europeans to travel the Silk Road to China (then called Cathay) and visit the Great Khan of the Mongol Empire, Kublai Khan (grandson of Genghis Khan).
In 1266 Venetian traders Niccolò and Maffeo Polo, the father and uncle of Marco Polo, were among the first Westerners to travel the Silk Road to China. Before the birth of Marco, they established trading posts in Constantinople, Sudak in the Crimea, and in a western part of the Mongol Empire.
