The University of Victoria is the oldest post-secondary institution in British Columbia. First established in 1903 as Victoria College, an affiliated college of McGill University, it gained full autonomy and degree-granting status through a charter on July 1, 1963.
Victoria College was a two-year college which provided students in Victoria, British Columbia with post-secondary education. Between the years 1903 and 1915, Victoria College was affiliated with McGill University, offering first- and second-year McGill courses in Arts and Science.

The University of Victoria, also known as UVic, is a public research university located in the municipalities of Saanich and Oak Bay, in British Columbia. It is the oldest post-secondary educational institution in British Columbia, which was established in the year 1903 as an affiliated college with McGill University.
