Gary Mann is a mysterious character who can be seen in five different places during Fleeing the Complex.
His bio only contains question marks.
Gary Mann is a peculiar stick figure having brown hair and light blue eyes, and wears grey shoes. He previously has black eyes in the legacy version.
What he is holding is a brown briefcase. He holds it in his right hand in Convict Allies, Presumed Dead, The Betrayed and International Rescue Operative. He holds the briefcase in his left hand in Ghost Inmate, however, this is likely a coincidence, since his entire model is likely flipped.
The character is a reference to characters and games made by Valve Corporation. The character himself and his appearance is a reference to the character G-Man from the video game series "Half-Life" by Valve Corporation, who is often seen with a suit, a briefcase, blue eyes and can teleport.
The name Gary may also be a reference to a Steam game, "Garry's Mod", though the spelling is different. Yet another reference to another Valve game could be his last name, which is that of Mann Co., a virtual company that runs the in-game store of Team Fortress 2, a popular Valve game. Should the A and R switch around; Gray Mann will be the result, the long lost brother of Redmond and Blutarch Mann, the founders of teams RED and BLU respectively.
Although mysterious, he carries an Achievement of "Rise 'n Shine". The player has to click him in-between cutscenes, whenever he appears
There are 5 different cutscenes in the game in which Gary can be seen out of place:
•When using the Leaf during the "Ghost Inmate" ending route. He is standing on the docks.
•In the yard of The Wall, after using the Toss option during the "Convict Allies" ending route.
•After Henry Stickmin kills Karlov Chernik during the "Presumed Dead" ending route. He exits a building.
•When using the Earthbend option during the "International Rescue Operative" ending route.
•He and Sal Mann coincidentally have the last name, however it is clear they are not related, as Gary Mann is likely a supernatural being while Sal is a normal person.
•He is the only character in the series to have colored eyes, with all the others having black ones.
•He, however, has normal black eyes on the legacy version.
•He is a reference to the Half-Life Character G-Man.
•The achievement Rise ‘n shine is a reference to the G-Man's opening monologue from Half-Life 2.
•Gary's name could be a reference to Gray Mann, a character from another Valve franchise Team Fortress 2.
