Daniel, who runs an art gallery in Paris, travels to Siberia to bring back a collection of artwork he has just inherited. He brings back a giant sculpted hand, which he believes to be a piece of the Golem, the legendary figure of Jewish myths.

Danny Cornish, a sort of stateless man who arranges art exhibits, is called from Tel Aviv to Paris with the news that a great uncle has died, in Birobidjan, the autonomous Jewish zone in Russia, leaving him a valuable art collection and the hand of a huge sculpture of a Golem.
In many versions of the legend, a Rabbi creates the Golem to defend the Jews from persecution. However, the Golem becomes a raging monster. The Jews struggle to stop it, and ultimately reduce it to dust.
