Mother Carey's Chickens is a 1938 American drama film starring Anne Shirley and Ruby Keeler. The film was directed by Rowland V. Lee and based upon a 1917 play by Kate Douglas Wiggin and Rachel Crothers, which in turn was adapted from Wiggins' Mother Carey's Chickens.
The book tells the story of a poor-but-happy family of four children who, in spite of being fatherless, make the lives of others better. Their home life becomes complicated when Julia, a snobbish cousin, comes to live with them.
Mother Carey's Chickens: Directed by Rowland V. Lee. With Anne Shirley, Ruby Keeler, James Ellison, Fay Bainter. An 1890s widow has two daughters and two sons. The daughters fall in love with the same gentleman.
