Moeritherium (del griego "bestia de Moeris ", antiguo lago de Egipto) es un género extinto de mamíferos proboscídeos de la familia Moeritheriidae.
El Moeritherium es un pariente lejano prehistórico de los elefantes modernos que vivió hace aproximadamente entre 37 y 35 millones de años, durante el período eoceno tardío. Se descubrió por primera vez a principios del siglo XX cerca del lago Moeris, en Egipto, y fue bautizado por Charles Williams Andrews en 1901.
Moeritherium was a rotund semi-aquatic mammal with short, stubby legs that lived about 37–35 million years ago. Its body shape and lifestyle demonstrate convergent evolution with pigs, tapirs, and the pygmy hippopotamus.
Moeritherium, extinct genus of primitive mammals that represent a very early stage in the evolution of elephants. Its fossils are found in deposits dated to the Eocene Epoch (55.8–33.9 million years ago) and the early part of the Oligocene Epoch (33.9–23 million years ago) in northern Africa.

Moeritherium es un género extinto de mamíferos proboscídeos de la familia Moeritheriidae. Eran pequeños, del tamaño de un cerdo, y con la nariz similar a un tapir.
