The State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe or Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe is an academy of arts in Karlsruhe, in Baden-Württemberg in south-western Germany. [1] History. The Academy was founded in 1854 by Frederick I, Grand Duke of Baden, with the landscape painter Johann Wilhelm Schirmer as the first director.

The State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe is rich in tradition and is counted among Germany’s most renowned institutions for fine arts education. Today‘s program structure holds true to an approach developed in the 1960s; it focuses on the fields of painting/graphic arts and sculpture.
Known under its final name, the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe (Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe), since 1961, it is now home to around 300 students, who are not only enrolled in the “Fine Arts” degree programme, but are also taught together with students following a teacher training course in Art Teaching.
