Joel Larson (born April 29, 1947) is an American rock drummer and percussionist who is known as a founding member of The Merry-Go-Round and for being associated with the Turtles and the Grass Roots.
Biography. Joel Larson is a respected drummer in two major epicenters of change in the rock and roll world. As a member of several well known rock groups, he was in the heat of the action in popular music during the turbulent 60’s and 70’s. He learned and practiced his artistry in two key cities in California, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Willie Fulton (lead vocals, guitar), Denny Ellis (guitar, backing vocals) and David Stensen (bass, backing vocals) went back to San Francisco, with drummer Joel Larson being the only one who remained in Los Angeles (he later returned to the group in 1972).
