Named for Northern New York entrepreneur Thomas S. Clarkson, Clarkson University was founded in 1896 in Potsdam, New York, first as the Thomas S. Clarkson school of Technology, then becoming the Thomas S. Clarkson Memorial College of technology, then Clarkson University in 1984.

It includes photographs of faculty, and senior students' individual portraits with personal data and activities information, followed by activities, fraternities, and sports.
Clarkson offered its final degree in domestic science in 1908 and became all-male, teaching chemical, civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering. Its charter was amended in 1913 and the name changed to the Thomas S. Clarkson Memorial College of Technology.
